This experience is available from September through to May.
Have you ever chewed on a twig from a yellow birch tree, tasted spruce gum right from the tree, or sipped tea made from a native plant?
Join local naturalist Pat Hudson at The Caledonia Country Hostel for an introduction on “Getting to Know Lichens”. Pat will provide some helpful tips on identifying the various species of lichens in Nova Scotia – and you’ll have an opportunity to see and touch some of the common lichens that can be found in our province.
Let’s make this a social event! Bring a bottle of your favourite wine; enjoy a selection of fine cheeses while we get to know each other.
Pat will take you on a journey through the seasons as she shares her enthusiasm and knowledge on the wonders of nature, as they were passed onto her.
You will be tempting all of your senses as the wonder of nature unfold. “Every season has its own mysteries and surprise.” It’s all about nature – look up, look down and all around as you learn about trees, plants and lichens, and some of their medicinal and culinary uses. Come and join us on this memorable UNESCO Experience in the Southwest Nova Scotia Biosphere Reserve (www.snbra.ca).
At the end of the day, help to prepare a “Hostel Style” dinner; it’s all part of the experience! While enjoying our meal together, we can talk about our adventures of the day. In the evening, join us for Tea Time! Sample some tasty teas made from our own native plants and use your imagination to create your own tea cupboard.
